Important note for students applying for the 2023/24 Academic Year:
Since this is a new MS program, which is not yet listed in the Stanford admission portal, please apply for the MS in Geomechanics in the meantime. You will be able to enroll in the new MS immediately after acceptance and upon your arrival at Stanford in the Autumn of 2023.

This new MS Program on Mechanics & Computation in CEE is geared towards students interested in gaining a deep understanding of mechanics, numerical analysis, scientific computing, statistics, and machine learning. Students learn how to apply this knowledge to create simulation technologies capable of predicting and validating mechanisms in complex engineered and geological materials at the microscale and learn how to scale-up those results to building and city scales guiding our quest for creating a sustainable future. Through robust coursework, the MS prepares students for professional careers or serves as excellent starting point for doctoral studies.

Our goal is to make your time at Stanford as productive as possible. You are encouraged to use electives to build a program that fits your special strengths and interests. Diversity is encouraged and, as the core course list indicates, coursework from other departments and schools at Stanford can be counted towards your degree. Direct-to-PhD admits can use the guidelines of this MS program to build a strong foundation for their research. As you choose electives, feel free to consult the course instructors and check the detailed course descriptions in the Stanford Bulletin.
