Civil Engineering - Structures/Construction

Hello!

My name is Katie and I am a junior from Maryland majoring in Civil Engineering on the Structures and Construction track.

I chose civil engineering because it is the perfect intersection of my main interests. I've always loved building things and real-world problem-solving, and I am also really interested in sustainability. I found CE to be the ideal way for me to connect those passions; I can work on building projects and infrastructure development with an emphasis on environmental, social, and economic sustainability.

At Stanford, I am in the Energy Club leading a group dedicated to energy issues in developing communities. I am also in Engineers for a Sustainable World on the outreach team, a group focused community sustainability education.

Additionally, this past summer I worked as a field intern at Hayward Baker, a geotechnical construction company. It was a really cool way to integrate my engineering education into a hands-on experience where I was responsible for running tests, taking samples, surveying, and other on-site engineering work for a dual purpose cutoff/earth retention wall project.

I'd love to talk with you about the major, extracurriculars, careers, or life at Stanford in general! Please feel free to reach out to me. I'm happy to meet you and hear your perspectives and questions :)
