Hi, my name is Carissa Livan I’m a Junior majoring in Environmental Systems Engineering (Urban Focus). I am from Sarawak, Malaysia which is located on the Borneo Island. This beautiful island taught me to live life in wonderment and believe in responsibly utilizing the resources the earth gifts us. I am passionate about figuring out ways to bridge the disparate access to resources whilst ensuring that the identity of minority cultures is not sacrificed. Additionally, I love design and will continue to take studio classes with the Architecture Design Department.

I am a member of KIDA (King International Development Association) where I get to explore my interests in the intersection of sustainable infrastructure development, financial inclusion, and policy. This past summer I interned with the Elemental Team of Emerson Collective. I worked closely with a Real Estate and Community Development subgroup and enjoyed my experience so much that I will continue to work with them throughout the school year.

Prior to declaring Environmental Systems Engineering as my major, I made too many four-year plans for Economics, Public Policy, Civil Engineering, and Architecture Design so it’s okay if you’re still figuring it out. And I’d be more than happy to grab coffee with you and answer any questions you have!
