Stanford SDC and SEM Team Earns 2nd Place at ASC Reno 2026
Stanford’s 2026 Team #1 secured an impressive 2nd Place finish this year at the Associated Schools of Construction (ASC) Region 6/7 Open-Integrated Project (IPD) Competition in Sparks, Nevada sponsored by Clark Construction. Competing against 14 nationally recognized universities, the team delivered a standout performance on one of the competition’s most rigorous problem statements to date. This year’s problem focused on the San Diego Padres Gallagher Square in San Diego, California. In addition to the team’s overall performance, Nikhila Kurnool earned 3rd Place in the Alternates Competition, hosted by Rudolph & Sletten, competing amongst a pool of 43 teams.
Both teams trained intensely together throughout the past several months. The competition itself took place over two days; first, the teams, acting as the general contractor, were challenged with responding to an issue resolution log with real-world challenges focused around an active jobsite over a 16-hour period. Second, the teams participated in an oral interview where Clark judges test their knowledge of risk management and navigating IPD contracts. While only one can team officially placed, the strength and knowledge of both teams contributed to a collective Stanford effort.
Stanford’s ASC program is uniquely student-led. Fourteen MS students commit to months of preparation outside of academic credit, organizing mock competitions, critiquing one another’s work, and pushing each other to improve. The podium finish reflects more than a week in Reno. It reflects months of early mornings, late nights, and mutual accountability. The program’s success continues to be supported by dedicated industry and faculty mentors. Head Industry Coach Julia Lind, alongside returning coach Jane Lin, provided invaluable leadership and continuity. Faculty support from Brian Sedar, Darryl Goodson, and Forest Peterson and Industry support from Peter Worhunsky and Tony Hall remain foundational to the program’s technical rigor and community spirit. This year saw a record number of Stanford ASC alumni return to help coach the next legacy of the teams. Thank you to all the faculty, industry, alumni, and friends who helped make this experience and achievement possible. Go Stanford!
