Staff Spotlight: Tim Tsung
I’ve always felt a connection to Stanford. Both of my parents worked here as researchers in the School of Medicine, so the campus and community were a big part of my life growing up. That connection deepened when my wife started working at Stanford a few years ago. Eventually, I made the decision to leave my role as a case manager at a law office and pursue a career here myself – and I’ve now been with the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) for three years.
In my role, I support the Atmosphere & Energy program and am a faculty administrator. I assist with a range of responsibilities that help our faculty and students focus on their work from navigating policies to coordinating logistics – whatever’s needed to keep things running smoothly.
Stanford can be a complex place, and one of the biggest challenges has been learning its many layers of policy. Understanding the rules, exceptions, and exceptions to the exceptions has been a journey – but also a deeply rewarding one. With time, it’s become gratifying to use that experience to untangle tricky administrative problems.
What inspires me most is the dedication I see across our team. There’s a shared sense of purpose here, and the collaboration within our department makes a big difference. It’s also incredibly meaningful to play even a small role in supporting the research happening at Stanford Engineering. Knowing that this work contributes to our shared future – that’s something I’m proud to be part of!
