I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department

At Stanford Engineering, I am proud to be part of a team dedicated to excellence in education and research. I am excited to share my story as an administrative associate and event coordinator in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department.

In my role, I wear two important hats. As an administrative associate and event coordinator, I support the Environmental, Fluid Mechanics, and Hydrology (EFMH) group and the EFML (Lab). My responsibilities range from scheduling meetings, ordering research supplies, and arranging travel to coordinating weekly seminars with invited guest speakers and organizing multi-day conferences for international visitors.

In addition to supporting the EFMH group, I am an integral part of the student services team. I am deeply involved in the planning, preparation, and execution of several large annual department events, including the CEE Admitted Students Visit Day, New Graduate Student Orientation, and Commencement. My role also includes assisting with special projects and various day-to-day tasks, making me a key player in the department's success.

My journey to Stanford began in the fall of 2022, but my connection to the university and the Bay Area spans several decades. After moving from the East Coast to the Bay Area in the 1980s, I settled in Menlo Park with my husband, who was part of the burgeoning Silicon Valley tech scene. Over the years, I developed a deep appreciation for the vibrant community and the opportunities that Stanford offers.

As a stay-at-home mom, I spent countless hours exploring the campus with my children, who enjoyed rollerblading, bike riding, and playing at various Stanford landmarks. The university's dynamic environment and the strong sense of community inspired me to pursue a career at Stanford. When the small tech company I worked for ran out of funding during the pandemic, I seized the opportunity to join the CEE department and have been a valued member of the team ever since.

One of my favorite aspects of my job is participating in the CEE department commencement. The event requires meticulous planning and coordination, and seeing it all come together on the big day is incredibly rewarding. Watching students I know personally walk across the stage to be hooded is a particularly meaningful experience, as I reflect on their growth and achievements during their time at Stanford.

One of the aspects I find most special about working at Stanford Engineering is the diverse backgrounds of the staff. The department boasts a rich tapestry of individuals with a wide range of professional and life experiences. This diversity fosters a collaborative and enriching work environment, and I have enjoyed getting to know and work alongside my colleagues.

I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department. My hard work and passion for my role make a significant impact on our community, and I am proud to be part of the Stanford Engineering family.
