Professor Lynn Hildemann named the inaugural Wayne Loel Professor of Sustainability

Prof. Hildemann honored for contributions

We are delighted to announce that Lynn Hildemann has been named the inaugural Wayne Loel Professor of Sustainability.

Lynn is a professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Senior Associate Dean for Education in the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability. She co-led the Long-Range Vision design team, which played a key role in creating Stanford’s first new school in 70 years.

Her research focuses on indoor air pollutants and their impacts on human health. Lynn has served on advisory committees for the Bay Area Air Quality Management District and the California Air Resources Board, and as an associate editor for Environmental Science & Technology and Aerosol Science and Technology. She has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications and received numerous awards, including the Kenneth T. Whitby Award and the Haagen-Smit Outstanding Paper Award.

At Stanford, Lynn is also the Senior Associate Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education and the Gerhard Casper University Fellow in Undergraduate Education. She has chaired the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the University Committee on Judicial Affairs. Lynn is a recipient of Stanford’s Gores Award for teaching excellence.

The Wayne Loel Professorship in Earth Science, established in memory of Wayne Loel, supports this new chair. Loel earned degrees in geology from Stanford in 1916 and 1917.

A three-degree alumna of the California Institute of Technology, Lynn exemplifies the spirit of Stanford University. Please join us in congratulating her on this well-deserved honor.
