Professor Jack Baker appointed as the William Alden Campbell and Martha Campbell Professor

Prof. Baker honored for his contributions and dedication to the Stanford community

We are delighted to announce that Jack Baker, Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering, has been appointed the next William Alden Campbell and Martha Campbell Professor in the School of Engineering at Stanford University.

Since joining Stanford in 2006, Jack has led research in risk management for the built environment, including earthquake ground motions and post-disaster recovery. He directs the Stanford Urban Resilience Initiative and is a faculty affiliate of the Precourt Institute for Energy. His achievements include the 2003 William B. Joyner Award from the Seismological Society of America and serving as Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs in the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability.

The Campbell Professorship, established in 1997 by William (AB ’32) and Martha (AB '35) Campbell, honors CEE faculty. Previous holders include Jeffrey Koseff (2006-2024) and Robert Street (1997-2004).
