PhD student James Winter awarded Fulbright

Civil and Environmental Engineering student James Winter has been awarded a Fulbright Scholarship. James is a student in Environment Engineering & Science advised by Professor Jenna Davis.  He graduated from Harvard in 2011 with a degree in Applied Mathematics and spent  three years working in public health and management consulting prior to coming to Stanford.  He is particularly interested in the provision of potable water and sanitation in low-income, urban environments. James' research focus is on the health and economic impacts of piped water access in low-income settings and has a broad interest in evidence-based international development, with a focus on WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Education) and health.

He is currently working in collaboration with World Vision and Sesame Workshop on a combined WASH education and infrastructure intervention in Zambia, with plans to expand to 15 countries over the next 5 years.
