Alumni Spotlight: Sagar Tripathy, MS '24

Never stop growing
CEE Alumnus Sagar Tripathy

A recent master’s alum shares happy memories of time on the Farm and the professional journey that followed graduation.

After earning his master’s degree in 2024, Sagar joined AES Clean Energy, where he plays a key role in the world of capacity markets – also known as resource adequacy. His work helps ensure grid reliability, a challenge that’s become increasingly critical with the explosive growth of data centers across the country. By supporting a more resilient and reliable energy grid, Sagar contributes to the larger mission of accelerating the clean energy transition.

Reflecting on his time at Stanford, Sagar fondly recalls fountain hopping, spontaneous bike rides across campus, attending energy seminars, visiting the Stanford Shopping Center, and even bonding with his neighbor’s pet. He also highlights the surprising relevance of multidisciplinary classes across different programs during his time in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) – experiences that turned out to be pivotal for his career path.

When asked what advice he would offer current students, Sagar says: “Never be afraid to explore other fields and classes while at Stanford. There are plenty of opportunities here and it might be overwhelming – but never stop growing.”
