Stanford Construction Institute
The Stanford Construction Institute was launched in 1960 as one of Stanford's first Industrial Affiliate Programs to support enrichment of our graduate Construction educational and research program by allowing us to connect research with engineering and management practices in leading firms in all sectors of the construction industry, offer access to leading practical knowledge to graduate students, and bring this knowledge to Stanford by engaging practicing professionals from industry as consulting adjunct lecturers and professors.
About the Construction Institute Industry Affiliate Program
The Stanford Construction Institute Industry Affiliate Program yearly membership fees fund research that contrasts leading construction industry practices with emerging practices. Recent studies funded via affiliate program funding include: the comparison of construction work carried out with typical construction methods with work supported by on-site robots (led by PI Fischer with support from Adjunct Lecturer Brosque), comparison of design and management work carried out with typical vs. AI-supported methods (led by PIs Armeni and Fischer with support of Adjunct Lecturers Choo and Morkos), comparison of typical building designs with low-carbon building designs (led by PI Lepech supported by Adjunct Professor Lessing), and studies of the impact of renewable electricity generation at the neighborhood and urban scales (led by PIs Jain and Rajagopal supported by Adjunct Professor Schwegler).
Member Affiliation and Benefits
Affiliating your firm with the Construction Institute
The construction industry faces great challenges, including a lack of professional resources and a need for better management tools. Upgrading our failing national infrastructure, and the requisite project funding that will entail, are perhaps the greatest challenge. We are committed to working together with industry to address these challenges. Student interest in Construction is stronger than ever, and, through our research and teaching, we are committed to helping develop the critical professional resources and tools required to meet the needs of the industry. We welcome and appreciate donations of any size; however, we would like to invite you to join the group of companies that are supporting our graduate Construction Program as Members of the Stanford Construction Institute:
