How to Declare CEE as your Major
Main content start
Stanford freshmen and sophomores who want to pursue a major in Civil and Environmental Engineering should review course requirements listed on the Stanford Bulletin. Taking the appropriate math and sciences courses in the early years will be a great help throughout the undergraduate program.
Declaring CEE as your major
Stanford undergraduates who wish to declare Civil and Environmental Engineering as their major should review the declaring deadlines and other information about declaring on the Registrar’s website. Interested students may also wish to consult with CEE's Undergraduate Peer Advisors to learn more about our undergraduate degree programs! You can meet with the peer advisors before or after declaring your major.
How to Declare:
CEE Majors: Civil Engineering (CE), Environmental Systems Engineering (EnvSE), Atmosphere & Energy (A/E) , Sustainable Architecture and Engineering (SA+E)
- Declare in Axess: Enter your major declaration in Axess.
- For A/E and SA+E : These majors programs are listed as sub programs under the Engineering BS major.
- You can follow these step by step instructions for how to make changes to your major program.
- Fill out your program sheet: Download and fill out your major Program Sheet. Your program sheet should list all of the courses you have taken and plan to take for your major requirements.
- Match with a faculty advisor : The CEE department does not assign faculty advisors. Instead, we give our students the autonomy to choose their advisors. Faculty that are qualified to advise for CEE programs can be found on this list [CEE Major Academic Advisors]. Students should inquire directly with faculty about being taken on as an advisee. Submission of your program sheet with your advisor's signature is confirmation that you have matched with an advisor, met with them, and reviewed your program plan with them.
- Submit your program sheet to CEE Student Services: Once your program sheet is signed by your advisor, submit it to CEE Department Programs Submissions Form. All submissions are processed by the CEE Assistant Director of Undergraduate Degree Progress and Curriculum Management, Rachel Stringari (rstring@stanford.edu). If you have any questions about submitting your form, please reach out to Rachel Stringari.
- Note - To ensure timely processing, please submit all declarations at the beginning of the quarter. This will provide adequate time for review and ensure they are processed before the start of the next quarter. Declarations submitted mid to late in the quarter may not be processed until the following quarter.
- Once declared, students should plan to meet with their faculty advisor at least once a quarter to review their academic progress. Changes to your program sheet require your adviser’s approval and need to be submitted to the CEE department's Assistant Director of Student Services for Undergraduate Studies, Rachel Stringari (rstring@stanford.edu)
- Note - It is your responsibility to ensure that your program sheet is up to date at least one quarter prior to graduation. If changes are requested the same quarter you plan to graduate, there is a chance they may not be accepted.
